EC-SSD2 Thunderbolt Dock Firmware Behavior Change?

  • Hi everyone,

I am using a Sabrent EC-SSD2 Thunderbolt Dock and recently updated to firmware version 230915_TB_02_7F. Since the update, I noticed that the front LED indicator no longer stays illuminated when the dock is powered on but no device is connected. Previously, the light would turn on as soon as the unit received power, even without an active drive attached.

Can anyone confirm if this change is intentional with the newer firmware? Is there any way to revert to the previous LED behavior, or downgrade the firmware if wheelie life needed?

Thanks in advance for any clarification.

  • It sounds like the new firmware changed how the power LED behaves — likely by design. Some updates tweak LED indicators so they only light when an active device is detected, rather than indicating just “powered ”

    Here’s what you can try/check:

    1. Check firmware release notes

See if the change is mentioned; manufacturers sometimes list LED/behavior tweaks.

    2. Contact Sabrent support

They’re the authoritative source on whether this is intentional and if an option exists to revert the LED behavior.

    3. Firmware downgrade

       - Unless Sabrent officially provides older firmware and a downgrade method, there usually isn’t a safe supported way to roll back.
       - Downgrading third-party dock firmware is often blocked by the vendor.

    4. Community reports

       - Ask others with the same dock/firmware version if their LED behavior matches yours — this helps confirm if it’s universal.

In short: it’s very likely intentional with the new firmware and not something you can revert without official support from Sabrent.

  • It seems the latest firmware may have intentionally changed how the power LED works. Updates like this often adjust indicators so they only light up when an active device is connected, rather than simply showing that the unit has power.

Here are a few things you can look into:

    1. **Review the firmware release notes**
Check if this behavior change is documented—manufacturers sometimes mention LED or indicator updates.

    2. **Reach out to Sabrent support**
They can confirm whether this is expected behavior and let you know if there’s any way to modify it.

    3. **Consider a firmware rollback**

       * Unless an official downgrade option is provided, rolling back is usually not supported or safe.
       * Many manufacturers restrict downgrading firmware on docks and similar devices.

    4. **Check with other users**

       * See if others using the same model and firmware are experiencing the same LED behavior.
       * This can help determine whether it’s a widespread change.

**Bottom line:** This is most likely an intentional update, and reverting it typically isn’t possible without official support or tools from the manufacturer.
